Feeling the Crunch!!

Okay, so the gas prices are getting a little ridiculous!! I was anxiously awaiting the press conference President Bush gave in the Rose Garden this morning only to come away feeling a bit more discouraged!! His plan to drive gas and food prices back down was brilliant--it's congress' fault. Okay, so not exactly but that is more or less what I got out of it. When asked if he would consider putting a moratorium on gas tax for the summer, he hedged nicely around that saying that answering that question would put him in the middle of a presidential debate and he didn't want to do that! He stressed drilling in Anwr, which would certainly help out gas prices...in about 5-10 YEARS!!!! Our politicians are getting their fair share of the gas prices soaring by way of the taxes, so they don't seem too concerned. The President blames congress, congress blames the President and no one wants to really get together to find a fix for the average American. Too bad that people we elected to work for us really aren't that interested in doing their jobs. Then of course, the wonderful media and journalist reporters weren't all that concerned with gas or food prices either as they quickly changed their questions to questions about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan!!! Come on, ask the hard questions and get us some answers!!!! That is what they are paid to do. Instead, they are more worried about hurting the President's ratings by dwelling on whether or not we are winning the war. Right now, I really just want a solution to the "NOT" recession we are in the middle of.
Well, at least the UTA FrontRunner is up and running in Utah. My husband will now be able to ride from Ogden to Salt Lake for work on a discounted pass thanks to his work!! This will save us thousands of dollars a year in gas money. We are grateful this commuter train is finally running and even more grateful it will provide my husband an alternative way to get to work. The $400.00 a month on gas we are spending right now will gratefully be cut down substantially. Thank you Utah Transit Authority and local elected officials in Utah for giving us some form of relief and caring about our pocket books. At least someone is!!
